EVENT INFO:

Dear community members,

International Nepali Literary Society (INLS), Washington D.C. cordially invites you to Laxmi Jayanti program on the occasion of birth anniversary of Nepal’s great poet Laxmi Prasad Devkota. Language, literature and culture are basic foundations of our society and identity. Writers and litterateurs such as Devkota are real creators and promoters of Nepali identity and culture. Please join us to pay respect as well as recognize and honor those who deserve it.

In addition to paying tribute to Devkota, listening to heart touching poems of local poets (Moti Samasyapurti Poem Competition) and watching selected Nepali songs and dance performances of local artists, you will also be entertained with Nepali feature film

MUKUNDO (MASK OF DESIRE)

MUKUNDO (MASK OF DESIRE) is a stormy and sensuous exploration of shamanic ritual, female desire, and forbidden love in modern-day Nepal. Tsering Rhitar Sherpa delivers a refreshing portrait of modern Nepal, one in which mysticism is treated as a basis aspect of everyday line not as a special effect. The movie breaks industry barriers as well as traditional narrative and thematic convention. The movie was short listed for the 2000 Foreign Language Oscar. Film will be screened with English subtitles.
