During the auspicious month of festivities, NOA is organizing NEPAL SAMBAT DAY this coming Nov 10, 2002, a special day in the historical and cultural life of the people of Nepal. We heartily invite all members of the Nepali community in Washington Metropolitan area and the surroundings, to come and join with us to greet and meet NEPAL SAMBAT 1123.
This significant day was instituted by the rulers of Nepal some 1123 years ago when a person named Sankhadhar Sakhwa by the grace of God, paid off all debt of ordinary Nepalese people irrespective of their caste, creed, or religion. A new era of debt free days was born in the land for the people of Nepal. This era has come to be known as NEPAL SAMBAT.
Because of this unique contribution of Sankhadhar Sakhwa, the Government of Nepal recognized it's founder Sankhadhar Sakhwa as a National Hero - Rastriya Bibhuti. To mark this important event NOA call upon all to join together in this day and celebrate the festivities that make up Tihar/Sunti and celebration of NEPAL SAMBAT 1123.
